If you’re looking for practical strategies to meet the Common Core demands for close reading in the English Language Arts 6-12 classroom, this session is for you. Participants will analyze several texts to learn classroom tested strategies for analysis, small group discussion, and writing about texts. Participants will look closely at Common Core Reading Standard RL4, exploring what it means to analyze how word choice and figurative language impacts meaning and tone. Participants will leave the session with several classroom-tested lessons and strategies that can be adopted to any text. Participants will also learn how to use free web-based tools to get students reading, thinking, and talking about texts.
