Welcome to my wiki. This wiki houses resources and links for workshop participants.

Im also experimenting with using the wiki for a professional ePortfolio. Use the sidebar

at right to navigate the site.

 What's in a name?

I wanted to title the wiki Filament Launchpad but decided my name would make a more user-friendly URL! Walt Whitman's Noiseless Patient Spider inspired my would-be title .

Whitman, writing in the 1800's, observes how a spider ceaselessly launches forth filament to explore his surroundings, to travel from one place to another, to bridge his world. Whitman notes mankind's similarity to the spider. We too ceaselessly seek to connect, to make sense of the world, to reach out to others.

Technology of the 21st century is connecting us like never before. We blog, we podcast, we collaborate via wikis, webcams, e-mails, discussion boards. We explore endless information easily summoned with a few clicks. We are living in the midst of sweeping technological changes that are reinventing the way we live, learn, laugh. At the heart of this change, however, is the basic spirit of exploration--that same spirit Whitman captured some two hundred years ago.

I'm passionate about embracing the explorative spirit of mankind. I'm passionate about harnessing the power of technology to improve my own teaching and excite and engage my students. I'm passionate about helping other teachers realize the power of technology to change and improve education.

My passions, however, are grounded in reality. For many of us, integrating technology can seem daunting--another thread to weave into our already overwhelming and overworked professional lives.

Hopefully, the workshops and this site will fling a thread or two your way that you can latch on to and weave into your own classroom teaching.
